New to Connections

We create new connections and modify existing ones within our electricity network. If you need a new connection but don’t know where to start, we’re here to help with everything from general information to completing your application.

Do we serve your area?

It’s easy to find out if we work in your area, all we need is your site postcode.

About us

National Grid Electricity Distribution provides power to the Midlands, South West and Wales. We keep the lights on for over 8 million customers by distributing electricity across our 55,500 square kilometers service area.

How do you make a new Connection with us?

You can apply online for a new connection, or to modify an existing connection. Once we’ve received your request details, we will be in touch with next steps.

We’ve included an outline of the connections process below.

Are you in our area?

Firstly, check that your property is within our working area - this is as simple as entering your postcode into our postcode checker.

Applying

Before you begin your application, make sure you’ve got all the relevant information to hand regarding your application. This includes site information and plans.

You’ll then be ready to apply. If you choose to apply online, our form should only take about 15 minutes.

Your connection offer

Once we’ve received your application, we will send you a quotation and some ‘help and advice’ information.

Accepting & scheduling

If you decide to accept our offer, arrange a payment with us and we will be in touch to schedule your job.

Installing a meter

You need to choose an electricity supplier before we can begin work. They will need the Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN) so that they can fit your new meter. Don’t worry - we will provide you with your MPAN.

Getting you connected

We will look after any paperwork for you, including any third party consents. After this, we can get started on your scheduled connection.
